The next BioChek Academy Lab Training will take place from Monday, 4 May to Thursday, 7 May 2026 at the BioChek Academy Center in Reeuwijk, the Netherlands.
This training is intended for laboratory technicians, both new and experienced, and for veterinarians who want to understand how ELISA and PCR tests work in practice. The program focuses on hands-on laboratory training with clear theoretical explanations, aimed at poultry and swine diagnostics.
Program overview
Arrival is on Monday 4 May in the afternoon or early evening, followed by an optional dinner. Training takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a final session on Thursday morning. Departure is planned after 14h00.
Training content
Participants choose either the ELISA or PCR track. Both tracks include theory, extensive practical work and software use. Topics include:
• Principles of ELISA and PCR
• Sample handling and manual practice in the lab
• Correct use of BioChek test kits, including reference sera, standards and controls
• Validation, analysis and interpretation of results
ELISA training includes practical work with the BioChek ELISA Assay Robot (BEAR).
PCR training includes clean working methods, magnetic bead extraction using the Roboprep32, running a BioChek PCR kit, thermocycler data interpretation, curve analysis, recognition of inhibition and handling contamination.
The program concludes with the use of BioChek software, including workflow support, validation, reporting and the BioChek Dashboard.
Additional attention is given to the use of ELISA and PCR in poultry and swine monitoring and diagnostics, including which samples to take and when to answer specific animal health questions. Basic guidelines for interpretation are also covered, including which parameters to use when evaluating ELISA or PCR results.
